Material type: super tensile strength alloy steel
Melting process way: VIM + ESR / +VAR

Silicon, Si (%): 2.60 ~ 2.85
Manganese, Mn (%): 0.50 ~  0.95
Phosphorus, P (%) ≤: 0.015
Sulfur, S (%) ≤: 0.010
Chromium, Cr (%): 0.65 ~ 1.05
Molybdenum, Mo (%): 0.30 ~ 0.55
Nickel, Ni (%): 1.50 ~ 2.10
Vanadium, V (%): 0.10 ~ 0.30
 
Typical mechanical properties under room temp.
Heat treatment practice:
hardening: heat to 920 ~ 940°C, then oil quenching
double tempering at 300°C, air cooling.
Tensile strength, σb ≥ MPa: 1500
Yield strength, σ0.2 / MPa: 1320
Elongation, δ5 ≥ ( %): 9.0
Reduction of area, ф ≥ (%): 40.0
Hardness via annealing / HBW: 311 max.
 
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
AMS 6499 is usually produced by VIM followed by electroslag refining (ESR) if necessary for special purpose. Bars and, where applicable, forgings are subjected to ultrasonic examination based on the different levels according to the buyers' specific requirements.
