AISI 630 is a martensitic type precipitation-hardening stainless steel that provides an excellent combination of high strength and hardness along with excellent corrosion resistance
AISI 630 ( type S17400 ) is designated as a martensitic precipitation hardenable chromium-nickel-copper stabilized with niobium, possessing high strength and toughness. Further strength increments can be obtained by cold forming, followed by a precipitation hardening treatment.
AISI 630 is a structurally hardened martensitic stainless steel which combines a hardness of about 44hrc with good corrosion resistance. This grade has a hardening peak at 480°C which allows easy ageing after machining on an initially 1020/1050 ℃ solution treated condition.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS
Due to its good resistance to corrosion, alloy 630 displays good hardness in the treated state (44 hrc) and its resilience, the grade is used in particular in the manufacture of instruments for the medical sector, in general mechanics, in the food industry and in the automotive sector.
Type 630 is normally used in mechanical engineering, shipbuilding, in the petrochemical industry and in the petroleum industry - aerospace, marine, paper, energy, offshore and food industries for heavy-duty machine components, bushings, turbine blades, couplings, screws, drive shafts, nuts, measuring devices, in manufacturing the high strength, anti-corrosive forge piece for planes, gas turbine and other machined parts.
HEAT TREATMENT PRACTICE AND HARDNESS
Supply form: round bars, sheets, flat bars and cold-rolled tapes.
Hot forging or rolling at 1150 - 900 ℃ with cooling in the air
Solution heat treatment at 1020 - 1055 ℃ with cooling in oil or air
Aging for +H900 condition at 480℃ holding for 3h, HRC 40 ~ 47
Aging for +H925 condition at 495℃ holding for 4h, HRC 38 ~ 45
Aging for +H1025 condition at 550℃ holding for 4h, HRC 34 ~ 42
Aging for +H1075 condition at 580℃ holding for 4h, HRC 31 ~ 38
Aging for +H1100 condition at 590℃ holding for 4h, HRC 30 ~ 37
Aging for +H1150 condition at 620℃ holding for 4h, HRC 28 ~ 37
